Cheese...

... why do you taunt me?
... why do you taste so good?
I'm trying to be a "good" vegan, but cheese... you are making it difficult.

I am not a dairy drinker, but in a solid form, cheese really makes it hard for me to stay on the course. Meat? Eh, you can have it. That's easy for me to avoid.
How about you? Anyone recently go vegan and find a particular food or food group hard to cut out?

Cheese is delicious. I admire your vegan pursuit. Mostly I do not eat meat--occasionally there is the boneless, fried piece of chicken (I live in the south so it's hard to avoid). But mostly seafood, veggies, pasta.

I love your blog by the way. You make such beautiful things!

Thank you, Elizabeth! You are SO sweet.
Oh gosh... I bet it is hard in the south! I would go crazy over the seafood. :)

I'm vegetarian and I keep toying with the idea of trying to eat vegan, but it's the cheese that holds me back. Cheese and Greek yogurt. That stuff is just way too good for words.

    Cyd... oh man! Yeah!
Greek yogurt! Yum. When the hubby and I were in Istanbul, they had really good yogurt there too... would that be "turkish yogurt"? I dunno... yogurt is good too!!

My sister is vegan and I just recently stayed with her for 3 days. Thought I would mind not having cheese, dairy or meat but I totally didn't miss it at all. I highly recommend the Conscious Chef cookbook...its amazing!

After reading The Kind Diet, I decided to be 100% vegan/gluten-free/sugar-free at home, but continue my pescatarian ways when I go out with friends. Because I allow myself these non-vegan outings, I haven't found it too difficult to be vegan at home (although vegan/gluten-free baking is turning out to be my nemesis; I have 20% success rate). This week I made a big spaghetti sauce that I bring to work for lunches with rice pasta. This is when I need the cheese! So I got some rice cheddar which is melty and delicious, but it has casein protein in it. Hmph. What's your take on casein in "dairy free" products? Have you tried any vegan cheeses I should know about?
