Birthday and a Boutique!

Posted on | Sunday, March 30, 2008 | 2 Comments

First off, can everyone wish my hubby, honey, lovebug a HAPPY BIRTHDAY?! It's his birthday today and how did we celebrate? Work! Yay! haha. Actually, Matt accompanied me to Portland yesterday to take care of some twigs & honey business and we did what any other normal adults without supervision/newlyweds would do. We woke up late, ate cold pizza for breakfast at 11:00 and finished with strawberry ice cream. You know, if you can, why not?

Among things to take care of in Portland yesterday, I am so happy to announce that the exclusive twigs & honey collection for the English Dept. is now available! If you are interested in these pieces, stop by The English Dept. in downtown Portland, OR. While you are there, coo at everything in the shop and say hi to the talented Elizabeth Dye. Yesterday, I dropped off 1 headband, 1 hairwrap/belt/armband, and 5 floral hair pieces. To all those nearby that frequent the shop, enjoy! If you'd like to know more, get in touch with the English Dept. or yours truly.

Today, I've been busy working on custom orders, and poor Matt was stuck playing Wii as I was busy sewing and cutting. I did manage to run to the store to buy a pre-made cake. I know, I know! I should have baked it! I normally do, but I was just too busy and would rather he have his cake and eat it than no cake, and no cake eating! mmmm.... and who wouldn't love Cookies and Cream Chocolate Cake?

Thank you Elizabeth (again!) and Happy Birthday Matt!

Photo shoot :: coming soon!

Posted on | Friday, March 28, 2008 | 1 Comment

I just had to gush about some truly fantastic people we are so fortunate to know and work with!

We recently (yesterday) had a photo shoot for the twigs & honey pieces and came away with some amazing photos. I'll be posting about this more in the coming weeks, but wanted to thank Paul Rich Studio & Elizabeth Dye!! Paul, his lovely wife Holly, and the ridiculously charming and gorgeous Elizabeth Dye were such good sports and so utterly sweet throughout the day despite 30 degree weather, sleet and rain coming at us sideways, wind, curious onlookers, the occasional security guard, you name it! THANK YOU!

More on this later.....
Please visit Elizabeth Dye's site for some visually delicious work!
Also visit the talented Holly Andres to view some extraordinary artwork.
And of course, as I post everywhere and can't say enough good things about them, visit Paul Rich Studio for some absolutely breathtaking wedding photography.

Boutonniere line :: new twigs & honey creations

Posted on | Wednesday, March 26, 2008 | 4 Comments

A few weeks ago, I got a most fabulous request from a bride who had just received her custom twigs & honey hair piece. She asked me if I could create the boutonnieres for the groom and groomsmen (7 total)! It was impeccable timing, as I was planning to dive into boutonnieres for quite sometime. Since I had been so busy with custom hair pieces, I never had a good chance, but thanks to a sweet bride's request, I'm pleased to announce the addition of the twigs & honey boutonniere line! This particular order was and is designed around the bride's hair piece. I am currently working on completing the set, but check my Etsy shop every once and a while to see the latest additions. I'm so excited about this set! Also soon to be listed in my Etsy shop, several larger bridal party sets (5 to 8 piece orders), requests from brides of all different tastes. You won't want to miss seeing these larger, coordinated pieces for some inspiration on pulling together your overall wedding day looks. By the way, the individual in the photos below is actually Matt and not me this time. I shamelessly asked my better half to "model" the new boutonniere line, if you were wondering. :)

Shop Update :: Bella :: Firefly Enlightened

Posted on | Saturday, March 22, 2008 | 3 Comments

Finally! I've listed another piece in my Etsy shop, Bella. Most of the materials for this piece are displayed in the previous post, back when it was just a heap of fabric and lace. ;) Yes, Eviez... something blue (from a previous comment)!

Also, Happy Easter! I recently stopped by my favorite Salem, OR shop, The Arbor, to hand pick a nice Easter gift. I snapped some photos of some carefully placed critters that are going to bring some sunshine to someone's day!

Just a little peak into a work in progress for the new Firefly Enlightened Collection for twigs & honey. I should be making some good progress by tonight and hope to post it before tomorrow, but we shall see!

New Collection piece - tentative list date and time

Posted on | Tuesday, March 18, 2008 | 2 Comments

I know that many people have asked when I'll be posting a new piece in my etsy shop. I also know that I always think I'll have time, but seem to always run out! Well, tomorrow evening to late night (Pacific time), I'll be posting a new piece named, Cynthia, part of the new Firefly Enlightened Collection. Refer to the previous post for more information on this new and exciting collection. Other new tid bits: Like the new logo??? I love it and can't say enought about it, that is when my eyes are not glued to it in a hypnotic fashion. Marisa of Fluff Life, is an ultra talented graphic designer and is working with me on creating a logo for twigs & honey. More to come but I couldn't resist throwing it up if even for only 1 day. Thank you so much Marisa!

New Collection :: Firefly Enlightened :: twigs & honey

Posted on | Monday, March 17, 2008 | 3 Comments

Even though I've been happily plugging away at the custom orders, I've managed to squeeze in just enough time to launch just one piece from my new collection: Firefly Enlightened. I have known for some time now that I'd like to launch several themed collections just because my pieces can vary quite a bit, and generally the pieces follow some related theme. I suppose you could also call it my guilty pleasure as I'm really stretching my creative muscles and branching out into different designs I've always wanted to create, but just didn't have time! If you're just too busy for a custom order, these new themed sets will likely provide a piece for you that will suit your tastes and needs. I'm not going to go into too much detail about each collection, but the series for the 2008 spring and summer collections will tentatively include: Woodland, Meadowlark, On the Seashore, DewDrop, and the already started Firefly Enlightened. I'm also so giddy to announce that I'll be creating a line exclusively for the English Dept. in Portland, OR. Expect for pieces to become available through the English Dept. around the end of this month.

Just a bit more on Firefly Enlightened. Today, I listed the first piece of the collection, Estella. The piece was created with just some of the most fantastic materials and I really incorporated everything my heart moved me to include. I was thinking that not many people would be trolling through Etsy and shopping on a Sunday evening, but guess what? I believe it sold in record time! Last I remember, I posted it, went out to dinner, came home, and it had sold! So, I apologize for not posting the shop update sooner for everyone who may have been interested and those who have been wondering when I'd have some new pieces listed (not reserved items)! I really thought I'd have some time after dinner to post to my blog. :) I also wanted to say that Firefly Engligtened is a series that I have created for hair pieces that are elegant, airy, only slightly whimsical, and that include subdued colors and very unique materials. I was visualizing that ladies who would want a piece from this line are poised yet not stiff, love finding heirloom-esque treasures, appreciate color coordination and soothing palettes, but also want something as unique as they are. Why the name "Firefly Enlightened"? Well, my husband's pet name for me is firefly and the enlightened portion - means progressive, free-thinking, open-minded, tolerant, etc. I was randomly, yet deliberately inspired. :) Check back soon for more information on the collections.

Jet's 1 Year Anniversary piece

Posted on | Thursday, March 13, 2008 | No Comments

At the end of February, I had the sweetest lady, Jet, contact me about ordering a custom creation for her 1 year wedding anniversary. How sweet is she? I jumped at the chance and loved how Jet had such a great sense of style and colors. Anyhow, her anniversary is in the beginning of April... Congrats!! She was so kind to send a photo of the overall "look". I loved it! It was so precious because her custom piece tied in the same creamy-dreamy colors, the touches of black (she will also have a black beaded clutch and heels), the polka dots in her dress, and the overall whimsical yet pulled together feel of her look. Thank you Jet!!

Just a sneak peak.... Sumomo Suki, Sade Williams and Peter Walkowiak

Posted on | Sunday, March 9, 2008 | No Comments

I just couldn't resist but post a couple of the most gorgeous photos! It's oh, only 3 a.m. in the morning (if you factor in daylight savings) and I'm still plugging away as usual, but I simply had to leak some photos. I'm going to post more about this later. This photo was for a shoot for fashion designer, Dorothy Moore of sumomo suki and the photos were taken by the talented Peter Walkowiak of Peter W Photo and Sade Williams of Black Boxx Photography. Check back soon for more!

Weekend :: getting caught up with twigs & honey orders

Posted on | Saturday, March 8, 2008 | 2 Comments

My sweet and patient husband is certainly missing his new wife lately! So, yes. We have been missing our movie nights and road trips as I have become so busy creating custom twigs & honey pieces. Thank goodness Matt is so understanding! We've also been busy looking for a new home and putting offers in. I have not been to Anthropoligie in weeks! That is always the best indication that I have other priorities. ;)

I hope to get mostly caught up on custom orders this weekend and by that I mean that I still have a huge list, but will be on pace to finish each piece on time. It is so rewarding working with so many great women from all over the world. I'm also attaching a photo my better half snapped of just a few of the orders I'll be shipping out on Monday. Two of the pieces are making their way around the world for a Singapore wedding. How very cool is the thought of that? Please continue to check back for shop updates and twigs & honey progress. Thank you for your continued interest and convo me in Etsy with any questions or order requests! I should also mention that Dorothy Moore, the oh so lovely and talented designer of sumomo suki, has sent some wonderful photos of some twigs & honey pieces from a recent photo shoot for her fabulous line. Photos are courtesy of the talented Sade Williams of Black Boxx Photography and Peter Walkowiak of Peter W Photo. I'll post some of those absolutely gorgeous photos in my next post. Check back soon! You're going to die, they are so lovely. :) Oh, I also wanted to add that the fabulous dress I'm wearing is a custom creation from Leanimal. Thank you Leanne!
