Oooh, so pretty
Posted on | Wednesday, March 31, 2010 | 4 Comments
I just saw this lovely photo over at the image is found blog. The shoot was done at Joshua Tree National Park and was styled by the amazing Angel at Love and Splendor. It highlights the 5 different looks Angel created for the photographers and number 1 and 5 are wearing Twigs & Honey headbands. Yay! The fifth headband was also featured in the current Portland Bride & Groom Magazine. Here is a link to the full size picture HERE.

So sorry for the light posts this week... actually, for no posts! I promise that it's because I'm up to too many good things! More on those "things" later! For now, I just wanted to post about a couple new pieces in my etsy shop. I think they are super girly and unique. I was recently asked by Willamette Woman Magazine, a local magazine in Oregon, to provide some headbands. Here's my favorite:
Tea and Cookies. A little vintage inspired number with a mini tulle lace veil. Perfect for not only a bride but for an afternoon tea party or bridal shower.
I also made this piece last week for fun, but didn't have a chance to list until today:
Antique Pink. Hand dyed silk, tulle lace, feathers, freshwater pearls and more, all hand sewn just for you!
Pinkham Millinery :: 10 years
Posted on | Friday, March 19, 2010 | 8 Comments
Matt and I stopped by Pinkham Millinery's studio yesterday evening for their 10 year celebration in Morgan's Alley. Dayna Pinkham is one of my most favorite milliners around. She made custom fedoras for Matt and I and we love them to death. The annual sale was also kicked off last night and I snagged a fabulous hat. There were so many that I loved, but I need to save up for those and spread my purchases out... I dream of having a huge Pinkham Millinery assortment of hats someday. :)
Dayna's studio is so charming and lovely.
I really loved this one:
This one was one of my favorites...
Another lovely hat
And another...
And another!
The sexy hubby in his custom hat.
Such a fantastic space with gorgeous hats! I decided to get this lovely felt hat:
Fun, yeah? Thank you Pinkham Millinery!
Sweet double blush :: New piece in the Etsy shop
Posted on | Wednesday, March 17, 2010 | 8 Comments
I am plugging away diligently on all the made to orders and pieces for 3 photo shoots but I squeezed in one project as a "break" mid-afternoon. This piece is a double silk flower with feather accents. It is completely handmade using hand dyed and hand painted silks that are hand sewn. Enjoy!

One final update on migraines and more (okay, maybe not final, but close)
Posted on | Monday, March 15, 2010 | 5 Comments
I just wanted to wrap up the discussion I started on a previous post. I wanted to wait a little while to make sure the remedies were working on me. :) I hope to at the very least, help 1 person, hopefully more!
So I have suffered with migraines for years. Debilitating. Nauseating. Crazy-making. Think of the worst story you've heard about migraines... that was/is the kind I suffer from. Sledge hammer to the temple, sensitivity to light and noise.. yada yada. It made me feel crazy, really. It kept me from work, social activities, everything. It is one of the most frustrating things too because you can feel so misunderstood and as if no one can sympathize since it isn't a real "sickness" or "disease".
Things I have learned along the way (maybe it will help someone else too?):
1. I cannot tolerate chemical fragrances. If I use a perfume made with chemicals or if I smell someone else's perfume on them that is made with chemicals, it will trigger a migraine.
2. I cannot use deodorants with chemicals. It triggers migraines in me.
3. I cannot tolerate MSG. There are certain popular potato chips, chinese restaurants and deep fried foods (probably can't list them for legal reasons) that use MSG and since I was little, they made me sick. It wasn't until a few years ago that I made the connection with MSG.
4. I can't use aerosal chemical room fragrance sprays or chemical fragrance candles. Ditto above.
Things I have learned recently:
1. I just learned about Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and most of my symptoms sound like they could be described by it.
2. I am low on vitamin B and iron. That *could* be making my migraines and fatigue worse from what I've read so far.
The results:
I started taking a vitamin B12 supplement in addition to a multi-vitamin, vitamin D, omega 3, and iron supplement. I've tried to phase out most sources of chemicals through the years. Remember my strange 2+ year battle with eye pain that would result in migraines? WELL, after cutting out most chemical triggers, 95% of my remaining unexplainable migraines would come from initial eye pain. I went to see an optometrist, opthamologist, and got an MRI. The guess from the experts? Chronic dry eye or some mechanical kind of problem. The opthamologist suggested I start using a sticky eye drops before I go to bed and a couple times during the day. After several days of consistent use, the eye pain went away! This is the first time in over 2 years that I don't feel like something is stabbing my eye. I know some readers were experiencing similar eye pain/migraines. Maybe you should consider this remedy as well (of course after doctor consult)? I'm using Systane Ultra... I haven't researched it, but for now, living without eye pain is worth it for me. Since the eye pain was fixed, I haven't had a migraine! Hooray (knock on wood)!!!
**I am trying to be vegan and eat mostly organic, limited corn and sugar. I do know that vegans can have lower iron and B12... contrary to the norm, my symptoms all started years before becoming a vegan and the symptoms were lessened after becoming vegan (I sometimes eat cheese though... bad vegan, tisk tisk, I know!)
I hope this blog post can help others suffering the same problems! Email me if you have specific questions on any of the above. info@twigsandhoney.com
Spring Rains...
Posted on | Sunday, March 14, 2010 | 3 Comments
They are coming! In Oregon, we have wet spring weather, but that makes for lovely green grass and vibrant flowers in the valley. I spontaneously decided to make a rain inspired set of pom poms. These pom poms are individually hand dyed and created from cotton in colors that remind me of rain, clouds, and blue skies. Each has a brooch pin backing so you can mix and match and customize the look. They are super soft and fun. Enjoy!
Spring Rain pom pom set of 4
I also created a goddess inspired headband:
Handmade with gold colored faux leather, beads and headband.

Pink as Promised
Posted on | Wednesday, March 10, 2010 | 4 Comments
I know there is a bunch of pink everywhere including the new (and gorgeous) Martha Stewart Weddings magazine, but I'm really in love with the color. Over the weekend, late at night while the hubby was snoozing, I made this convertible necklace/headband/crown. I also made a crystal beaded hair comb... not typically what I create, but I just had all these lovely pink hued crystals and beads and had to do something with them, right?
This one features a handpainted silk flower, about half a dozen other handmade flowers and vintage millinery blossoms and leaves. It is wrapped in silk ribbon and you can customize the fit.
Beaded comb made with freshwater pearls, swarovski crystals, and beads all wired in sterling silver onto a silver plated pin.
Oh! And I created a dainty mini double layer veil today:
All in my etsy shop soon!
Update: The dainty mini double layer veil I created earlier in the week was a lovely surprise after a mistake. I was actually making something else, but it didn't go right and this lovely veil was created late at night from what was originally a mistake. Amazingly enough, I've already spotted copies. In just a couple days! Ugh. It would be nice if I could have a few things that I design remain mine. Can I just keep some?
