The Bride's Guide Twigs & Honey DIY project

Posted on | Thursday, January 14, 2010 | 3 Comments

Yay! I put together this easy to create goddess headband as a DIY project for the Bride's Guide, the Martha Stewart Weddings blog and the project is up! Click HERE for all the details. It was inspired by their white color palette story.

Sparkle Flourish
The original Flourish has been a favorite among brides and the Sparkle Flourish is as it sounds... It has rhinestones in the center for sparkle!

My "new" to me sewing table

Posted on | Tuesday, January 12, 2010 | 9 Comments

I found this old sewing table at an antique shop last weekend... actually... I found it in October and thought about it for a couple months. Good thing I waited because it was over 50% off. Yay! Matt asked several times if I wanted him to repaint it. I said "no". I like the beat up look... someone or several people loved it over the years and after a few coats of paint, I like the way it looks now. :)

It came with an old sewing machine that still works!

What treasures will we find in here?

Original spare parts and...

The original instructions. Someone, somewhere is reading this post thinking... who would buy my old, worn table?
Update: I guess I should say how much I nabbed it for! So I really know nothing about antiques, but it was originally $150 in October and I got it on sale for $65. I don't know if this is a great deal, but since October, I daydreamed about it and thought about how to talk it down to $100... so hey, it's less than what I was willing to pay for it! ;)

Bella Figura Trendsetter Sample Sale

Posted on | Monday, January 11, 2010 | No Comments

I love the modern, beautiful designs of Bella Figura and when the ultra sweet and pretty, Cyd of The Sweetest Occasion got in touch a little while ago to share the new collection and invite me to become part of the Trendsetters, I was completely excited. Here's a bit more on the Trendsetters at Bella Figura:

"Find out what letterpress wedding invitation designs these style-driven trendsetters recommend. Each of our trendsetters has curated a sample pack, which includes their selection of five favorite invitations; paper samples; and ink swatches + envelope lining colors if you’d like, all packaged in a keepsake Bella Figura box. 100% of a sample pack cost is donated toward an environmental nonprofit. (Because it's a 100% donation, the sample cost won't be refunded if you place your order from us. Thank you for supporting the world with your order!)"

If you're interested in gorgeous wedding invitations, be sure to visit Bella Figura. Right now is the best time because from now until January 16th, all Trendsetter sample packs are 50% off! That is $10 for 5 invites and all the proceeds go to charity. Read about my choices HERE. Here are the lovely cards I chose:

Thank you, Cyd!!!

I told Matt today that it doesn't feel like my birthday. So he goes, "What day does it feel like?" I go, "Monday."
Over the weekend, I scored at an antique shop with some lovely baubles:

baubles

I'm thinking of mixing them into the pieces I'm making for this lovely event later this month and this one.
I also got lucky and found an old singer sewing table... need to pick it up later today. It's heavy! Pictures to come.
Playing with light...

What a random post, huh? :) Happy Monday!

New Etsy shop to visit

Posted on | Friday, January 8, 2010 | 2 Comments

My sister and I have been busy behind the scenes working on a new and exciting project that will be ready later this year. I think it's always great to work with family, don't you? Anyhow, that project is under wraps right now, but I promise to share with everyone as soon as it's ready along with another exciting something in the next few weeks. So many new things... I would also like to share that my sister has just opened up an Etsy shop! At the moment, there is the cutest embellished sweater listed. Please be sure to visit her shop as I'm sure she'll be filling it with lots of prettiness over the coming weeks/months. Here's the first item:

Cute, yes? You can view/purchase it HERE.

Tastefully done boudoir

A little part of me cringes at the thought of boudoir photos... perhaps it's modesty... or maybe I've seen too much done in ways that make me feel uncomfortable? I think boudoir is gorgeous and beautiful if done the right way (although, we are all entitled to our own opinion about style). I think it's nice when you can look at a boudoir photo like a piece of artwork. If you can look at it without feeling uncomfortable or a bit embarrassed, then I think it's done its job. I think a perfect boudoir photo for me shows the beauty of every woman and celebrates femininity. If it has an old world, vintage charm... bonus! If you are in agreement and in the Portland area January 24-25th, you should book a session with Lisa Warninger. She'll be working with a very talented stylist, Rebecca Westby (who's work I'm sure you'll see much more of in the future) and Madi Cosmetics. I hear that slots are filling up fast... but what better gift for your special someone for Valentine's? Here's a sampling

Month 2 :: Vegan diet

Posted on | Thursday, January 7, 2010 | No Comments

I realized that I haven't done a vegan/kind diet update for a while!
I am still forgoing meat... but I have to admit that over the holidays I did eat just a little bit and every once and a while, I'm eating a bit of cheese. I'm still saying it... I love cheese and it is so hard to cut out! But, I still feel great and I know that I'm doing my body good whenever I can go for longer stretches without eating animal products. I don't think of it so much as cutting things out of my life rather than eating right to live well. I was excited to see that this fashionable and sweet lady has read through The Kind Diet book too! You can read about her opinions on food and health for cancer prevention and reversal HERE. In the last two months, I've experienced more energy and fewer migraines. Hooray! I had 1 bite of steak off Matt's plate a few weeks ago, and I didn't like it.
I made the yummiest portobello burgers last night and I'll have to start posting recipes! I guess my New Year's resolution this year would be to stick with it and to be better about cutting out cheese.... aw, we all have our weaknesses!

Beautiful wedding at Once Wed

I just saw the loveliest wedding at Once Wed and recognized the Twigs & Honey hair piece. Brianna, the too pretty bride, is wearing Blushing Mist, a hand dyed and handmade silk flower. Such a lovely wedding, yes? Photos by our labor of love.

Oh sweetness in Paris

Posted on | Wednesday, January 6, 2010 | 4 Comments

The very cute Nathalie recently sent me a picture from her travels in Paris. I think she is so pretty wearing her Twigs & Honey hair piece. I mentioned to her how I loved her jacket and brooch. Her jacket is from Old Navy! And the brooch is by Etsy seller nakedtile. Too cute in the heart of Paris during the holidays...

pssst.... Paris is on my mind.... ;)
If your Twigs & Honey piece(s) is a world traveler or currently in a far off place, email me a photo (info@twigsandhoney.com) for the "around the world" photo on the right column.

I was just grabbing the URL for the English Dept. in Portland and noticed... hey... this website looks different! Just passing along the word. If you've got a few minutes today, you should check it out in all its newness. :) The talented Elizabeth Dye is the shop owner and curates her charming Downtown Portland boutique like it was an art gallery for all things pretty and sweet. You can try on and buy Twigs & Honey pieces here too. If you ever pass through Portland, be sure to stop by. You will ALWAYS find something beautiful. Pssst... and don't forget their fashion show on January 31st at Ace Hotel in Portland.

Elizabeth Messina has really blown me away with these beautiful photos from her brother's wedding to the prettiest bride, Lauren. I got a sneak peak last month and have been dying to see more photos. I made Lauren a dramatic bridal hat with handmade, oversized silk white flowers and a double feather flower with detachable birdcage veil. Lauren wore them beautifully! See more photos HERE and at Unveiled Weddings Magazine.
