One of the most adorable brides ever...

I just saw the cutest wedding over at The Wedding Chicks. I worked with Meg on her bridal belt after last season's Novel Romance fashion show. She is also wearing an Elizabeth Dye shrug.

The Kind Diet :: Book signing at Powell's with Alicia Silverstone

Posted on | Wednesday, October 21, 2009 | 1 Comment

This morning, I watched a segment on AM Northwest with the lovely Alicia Silverstone and was pleasantly surprised to hear she would be at a book signing at Powell's Bookstore for her new book, The Kind Diet. Since Matt and I normally head up to our self defense class in Portland on Wednesday evenings, I thought, why not head over.
I have been quietly following Alicia's story since her endearing role in Clueless to her lifestyle choices from supporting animal rights to helping the environment. Tonight, she was poised and well-spoken with the same charm and wit as the effervescent "Cher" in Clueless... but "clueless", she was not... It was refreshing to hear someone from Hollywood speak about the benefits of eating better not just for those who love animals... but for your own health, well-being and the environment. She even touched on some bioregionalism topics (remember from my previous guest blogging?), which is a topic I wish I'd hear more about in discussions about diet and improving the environment. I'm excited to read her book am already recommending it from the excerpts I read on the drive home. Here are a few photos:

Just for bloggers :: Autumn scarf

Posted on | Tuesday, October 20, 2009 | 2 Comments

As a thank you to twigs & honey blog readers and supporters, I'm offering up a limited edition scarf through this blog only. It was also a small break from the norm. I had been hoarding this gorgeous cotton batik print fabric for some months now, and I decided to finally put it to good use. I made one for myself, of course (a rare treat!) and can't wait to wear it on those crisp autumn days.

Picking the Perfect Pumpkin :: Heiser Farms

Posted on | Sunday, October 18, 2009 | 4 Comments

Matt and I had a lovely time visiting Heiser Farms in Dayton Oregon on Sunday. We have made it a tradition to pick our own pumpkins each year, and this would make it our 8th time together picking pumpkins and our 3rd time at Heiser Farms. Last year and the first year we were dating, we went to the Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island, which is also fantastic, but we wanted to stick closer to home this year. We may still go to the haunted corn maze on Sauvie Island next week... but we shall see!

So many to choose from. Normally, we go the weekend before Halloween and everything has been picked over, but this time around, it was really hard to choose!

Last year, someone stole my pumpkin off our front porch, so we're keeping them indoors for now... maybe I need a few back-up pumpkins? There's still time before Halloween!

New pieces in the Etsy shop

Several fun new pieces are in the Etsy shop including a couple party hair pieces, a belt and a lovely petite set of blossoms. I think the black ones would be fantastic for a Halloween or New Year's party (early, but it's good to plan ahead!).

I wish we could have gone! Matt and I were way too sick and didn't want to infect anyone else, but if we could have, we would have gone to last week's Pinkham Millinery show that took place in a cemetery! You already know how I ADORE Dayna Pinkham's creations.... so this event really looked ultra spectacular... pulling many talented local designers together to create an oh-so-tim burton-esque feel. View more pictures HERE.

I'm SO completely obsessed with this sexy number by Elizabeth Dye. I got to see it in the flesh at the Enlish Dept. the other day. I love the corset/bodice details, the flare of the skirt below the knees, the ruffles at the shoulder (similar to this creation of hers - Elizabeth... you make me sick with all your talent). But I especially love the long train/bustle detail in the back...

*Sigh* Such lovely head art.

blast... I hate being sick.

2009 has been quite the year of getting sick for me. I apologize for the slight delay in responding to messages... and I just realized today was a gov't holiday so shipments slated to go out today will be shipping tomorrow. I went to the post office today and was initially baffled by the locked doors. Since we got back from traveling, I got really sick... runny nose, coughing, sneezing, fever, headaches, the works... Sat-Sun I literally got up to drink tea and went back to bed for the rest of the day. Today, I'm feeling slightly better but still pretty lousy... but it gives me hope for tomorrow. When I'm 100% again, I have some exciting things in store. I promise! Lots of mini and big projects in the works and there will be much to be tickled about.... but for now, I'm going to go rest my head. Thank you for your patience!
p.s. The lovely hot pink dress I wore in Istanbul I actually purchased in Istanbul. I will have the website to the quaint shop soon if you are interested in purchasing (The shop is in the Lonely Planet book on Turkey). The dress is stunning really... with rope ties, embroidery and it is long with a row of ruffles along the bottom (I wish I got a full length photo)... and I had it tailored for free by the shop owner's wife. :)

This was interesting. For 5 Lira, a rooster picked my fortune and a bunny picked Matt's fortune. What did my fortune say? "You got tired for the last days but you still don't perceive your own state. This exhausting work can put your health in danger. You're admired by two people but you don't even notice them." Interesting!
Matt's fortune: "O! Owner of fortune: You're in straits nowdays but don't worry you will sort out everything and feel happy. It is seen generosity by someone."

Seafood dinner on the last night in Istanbul. Delicious. The host brought out a platter of 15-20 different mezes (appetizers) to choose from. I picked stuffed muscles and Matt got rice filled grape leaves. He then brought out a platter of fresh whole fish to choose from. We picked a Kırlangıç, a kind of rock fish. It was the most expensive meal of our lives. We didn't know you had to buy the whole fish until after we chose. Total cost of dinner: 190 Lira! You can do the currency conversion HERE. Nutty!
