I just received a few gorgeous photos from the talented Stephanie Williams of Stephanie Williams Photography. She recently photographed the fashion spread in the lovely e-zine, Utterly Engaged. Here are a few photos and one from the e-zine:

Oregon Bride Magazine :: fall/winter 2009

Posted on | Wednesday, July 22, 2009 | 2 Comments

Aw~ just lovely:

This amazing photo shoot was taken in May on Mt. Hood in Oregon. Elianna Bar-El did the amazing styling and the spread was for the lovely Oregon Bride Magazine. I see several tops from the English Dept., including that amazing shrug that Elizabeth Dye made for me! There are a couple twigs & honey pieces in the shoot:

Just stunning. How funny that a few years ago, my MA thesis was on Mt. Hood, glaciers and environmental change. When I chose Mt. Hood as my region of study, I never thought that years later, I would have designed a couple pieces for a fashion shoot on the dormant volcano. Full circle. :)

I need to grab a copy of the latest Oregon Bride Magazine! I'm dying to flip through the whole issue. I noticed that they have a few of the pages online HERE and they did a lovely little write-up on Twigs & Honey HERE. They included a picture I took for my website. *smile*
Thank you, Oregon Bride Magazine!

I can't wait to see the fashion spread styled by Elianna! I'll keep you posted.

Rise and Shine Necklace :: Spotted!

I just happened to visit the Etsy FrontPage this morning and saw a flash of something that looked familiar. It didn't totally click in my head at first and then I realized it was the Rise and Shine Necklace. Remember I originally designed it for my sister?

Fun stuff.

I haven't done a big update to my Etsy shop for a while, so I've added three new pieces. Each one is very different, one of a kind, and fun. Enjoy!

New twigs & honey piece :: Modern floral bustle

Posted on | Tuesday, June 23, 2009 | 4 Comments

I have been working with one very sweet, sweet and patient bride for a long time now and I have finally finished her floral dress adornment that should have been finished months ago (thank you, Trang, for being so patient!). It took too many hours to recall and my wee hands are exhausted, but it is finished and it's got to be my favorite piece ever:

bustle2

Many handmade silk flowers and leaves. It is very dramatic and unique. I will get some pictures of it modeled tomorrow. I pseudo modeled it to check the balance earlier, and I'm so giddy about it. It is really stunning on. Right now, I need to go eat something. I'm pooped. Thank you, Trang!!
Almost forgot... but I'm calling it a modern floral bustle and I'll start accepting custom order requests for it soon.
Prices starting at $250.

Braid Wednesday

I heard about the Braid Wednesday Flickr group a couple weeks ago on Wiksten-made and thought, what a great idea! I finally remembered today so here are my braid contributions:

I ended up creating a double fishtail braid with a smaller regular braid at the temple. Happy braiding!

I love this design and so I decided to recreate it and list it in my etsy shop. I originally created it for A Lovely Workshop. Here is one of my favorite photos by Elizabeth Messina from the shoot:

It's a very easy going piece and perfect for an unfussy, carefree bride or for everyday. Find it HERE.

Few new pieces in the Etsy shop

Posted on | Tuesday, May 26, 2009 | 1 Comment

I never have time anymore to create pieces for myself and I always kick myself when I throw on an outfit and hit the town with Matt without a perfect little topper. Over the holiday weekend, Matt and I worked the earth, hard, and got much of the front sidewalk garden finished. It took three days over a couple weekends, but it is 100% better. I'll have to take pictures soon! Anyhow, I treated myself to a couple pieces. One of my favorite current designs is Mist. I made two for myself, finally... in a lovely blush pink/champagne, and one in bright turquoise. I love them so much I threw up a couple made to order listings in my Etsy shop for others to enjoy. Click HERE to view the pink one and HERE for the turqoise version.

U-handbag :: Love it and recommend it!

Posted on | Tuesday, May 5, 2009 | 2 Comments

I found this great Etsy shop the other day: U-handbag
I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys DIY and stylish little things. You can purchase kits to make lovely purses and nearly everything you need is included. I think the only things I had to provide after the kit arrived were scissors, a sewing machine, glue, pins and time. Plus it came so quickly. I purchased it on a Monday and it arrived at the end of the week from London... all the way to the west coast of the U.S. Awesome. On Sunday, Matt and his little brother worked on house remodeling, so I sat there for just 1 hour and cranked this baby out. Matt and Eli were completely impressed. I believe the words were, "wow! that looks so professional!" ... but alas, I really have U-handbag to thank! Here is the picture on the listing:

Here are the results:

Just like the pictures! Easy to make too!
Find your own kit on the U-handbag Etsy shop HERE, or online shop HERE.
Only $25.50 for the whole kit and shipping from the UK. Plus, you can reuse the pattern over and over again, so you just need to buy the fabric and hardware the next go around. I think this would be a great project for an entire bridal party.

Happy Monday!

I think (no, I know!) Twigs & Honey pieces are more well-traveled than me. Last week, they were on a snow capped peak for a shoot... Today, they are in lovely Napa Valley for a wonderful photography workshop by none other than one of the most talented photographers out there, Elizabeth Messina. I cannot wait to see the results. If they are anything like these...:

.. I will just die a little from prettiness overload. More on this to come... plus a fabulous twigs & honey giveaway!

On a more random note, I'm totally inspired by these photos from Lula magazine:

Photographer: Nicole Nodland
Found first HERE.

And even more random, I'm aching for these shoes:

They only ship to the UK and Ireland... I'm trying to see if I can get them another way... I may need to *ask* for a favor from a UK bride, which may entail a twigs & honey piece as a "thank you"... but we shall see. I am just in love with these shoes and must have them!
Happy Monday!

Rise and shine necklace :: Pink confectionary treat for your neck

Posted on | Thursday, April 30, 2009 | 12 Comments

I talked with my big sis on the phone this morning and she asked if I could make her a necklace similar to the one I made for the English Dept. Fashion show a couple months ago:

She also really liked this Anthropologie necklace:

But... she wanted it in blush pinks and super soft fabrics for her sensitive skin. Voilà! Here are the results:

Countless, supple layers of blush pink silks, tulle, chiffon on hand dyed self tie ribbon. I rarely get to make anything for myself anymore... but I really hate to part with this one. Alas, my sister will get this one soon!
I'm thinking of listing this piece in my Etsy shop as a "made to order" number. Would this interest anyone?
Update: Made to Order listing is up in my Etsy shop HERE. Thank you, everyone, for your sweet comments!!

Several new pieces! :: Including customizable adornments

Posted on | Sunday, April 19, 2009 | 3 Comments

I have several new lovely hair adornments in the New Twigs & Honey online SHOP! I've included a couple customizable flowers too. I will add swatches/option pictures in the Ordering & Payment page soon if you are unsure of the look of a particular feather, lace or leaf variety. My favorite piece in this most recent update is Mist, a completely handmade interpretation of a blooming rose:

Remember how I have had the habit of naming hair pieces by cities/places? It's an old tradition since before I officially started Twigs & Honey. Matt has to go to Mist, Oregon for business every couple of weeks and I love tagging along. The drive is just lovely... past some farmlands and through the woods...
